Methods and tools

BM-Change makes use of proven managementtools from Strategyzer©. The most well-known are the Business Model canvas and the Value Proposition canvas. These tools are characterised by their short learning curves and fast delivery of results. Next to that our toolkit contains various tools from the service design domain, like the customer journey map, persona’s and stakeholder map. If necessary, we even develop our own tools and models like our business model monitor.

More important than the tools is the methodology behind it. Business Model Generation is a design methodology for business models that makes use of visual and creative techniques. BM-Change combines Business Model Generation with the change management methodology of de Caluwé and design rhinking methods. This combination of methods and tools result in a creative, human-centered, holistic and structured manner for designing, maintaining and innovating business models and strategies that maximises the value created for you and your customers.

Approach

Combining business and creativity. Creativity unlocks ideas and solutions that would otherwise remain undiscovered. Evidence based decision making and a structured process ensure that solutions are feasible and lead to tangible and measurable results.

Human-centered. The purpose of business models and strategies is to enable value creation for organisations and customers. By involving a broad range of stakeholders in the design process, the quality and diversity of solutions will increase and the level of commitment will rise. A high level of commitment increases the chances of success for a new business model or strategy.

Exploration. There is no single best solution for a strategic issue. Strategic issues are complex, positioned in a moving and connected toother issues like social, technological or political issues. There are no one size fits all solutions for this kind of issues. Wat does work is using an action learning approach where involved stakeholders take action and reflect upon the results to come to satisfactory solution.

Result

Only after the implementation of a business model or the execution of a strategy it will become clear if defined goals will be met. By involving staff, customers and end-users, early in the design process, the changes of  succesful outcome are very high and implementation risks will be minimised.

Business model design is more than profit maximisation and cost reduction. Emphasis is on value creation, for the customer as well as for the organisation and discovering the customer needs. When done properly, the organisations sensing capability and its ability to adapt to changes in the business context will improve.

During the design process, ideas, concepts and prototypes are recorded visualy as well as in writing. Visualisations of business models and strategies are used for communication to a broader audience within the organisation and to increase the level of involvement and commitment of employees.
